This guideline procedure addresses potential system spills using pneumatic tube systems in hospitals. Infection control clean up procedures are presented as well as packaging guidelines - and the latest federal regulatory agency citations such as OSHA, the CDC and CLSI.

The 8-page document outlines specimen transport and handling issues relating to potential spills associated with automated material transport in hospitals. Included are guidelines for container testing, and secure packaging of specimens

The report focuses on pneumatic tube system use – and addresses system spill procedure, decontamination and disinfectant situations. Swisslog has monitored reports provided by safety regulation agencies including the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and has incorporated pertinent references to agency reports and guidelines.
